Mammals and Primates
More than 120 mammal species can be found within the Danum
Valley including all of the 10 species of sabah's primates.
Luxury Wildlife Experience
Orang utans, red leaf monkeys, long tail macaques and bornean
gibbons can often be spotted searching for food among the
fig trees during fruiting season.
The forest is also rich in other large mammals such as elephants,
sun bears, clouded leopards, bearded pigs and several species
of dear such as the mouse deer.
Over 300 species of bird have been recorded
in Danum Valley:
Rhinoceros Hornbill, Wrinkled Hornbill, Helmeted
Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, White
Crowned Hornbill, Bushy Crested Hornbill, Imperial Pigeon,
Black Hornbill, Barbet, Leaf-Bird, Sun Birds, Black-throated
Babblers, Bornean babbler, Bulbuls, Blue-headed Pitta, Giant
Pitta, Black-and-crimsom Pitta, Bornean Bristlehead, Banded
Pitta, Great Argus Pheasant, Chestnut-necklaced Partridge,
Crested Fireback Pheasant, Red-bearded Bee-eater, Diard's
Trogon, Red-napped Trogon, Scarlet-rumped Trogon, Blue-crowned
Hanging Parrots, Blue-rumped Parrot, Fiery Minivet, Malaysian
Blue Flycatcher, Large-billed Flycatchers, Buffy Fish Owl,
Brown Wood-owl, Crested Wood Partridge, White Fronted Falconet,
Bornean Ground-cuckoo, and many more.
Herps and Reptiles
There are more that 75 reptile species including turtles,
agamid lizards, skinks, monitor lizards, geckos and some snakes
such as cobras, pythons, vipers and coral snakes.
Moths and Butterflies
There are probably more than 6,000 species of moth and at
least 350 species of butterfly.
Many amazing and colorful insects inhabitate the ecosystem
of the Danum Valley.
The Danum forest is dominated by dense Dipterocarp trees.
There are also 10,000 species of higher plants.
Other Rare Fauna
Sumatran Rhino, Clouded Leopard, Benten Elephant, Western
Tarsier, Malayan Sun Bear, Spectacle Flower Pecker (newly
discovered bird species).
